Awards

The categories are:

  • Awards for Individuals and Researchers
    These awards are made to those seven individuals who have made outstanding contributions to science, engineering and technology (SET) in South Africa in five separate categories, including the TW Kambule NRF Research Awards (Awards to Black Researchers, Senior and Distinguished Young researchers).
  • Awards for Research for Innovation by teams/individuals in organisations
    These awards in three categories are made to three teams/individuals in either a corporate organisation, or an SMME or an NGO/NPO that have made outstanding contributions to science, engineering, technology and innovation through the research that has led to an innovation in South Africa.
  • Awards for Researchers for Research Capacity Development
    The purpose of these two Awards is to recognise individuals (one male and one female researcher) regardless of nationality or citizenship based in South Africa, who have during their careers demonstrated outstanding leadership in increasing the participation of Black Researchers in their chosen scientific, engineering and technological fields.
  • Award for Science Communicators for Public Awareness
    The SAASTA/NSTF Science Communicators for Public Awareness Award is intended to encourage South African researchers and communicators to promote science and technology though conventional and/or innovative means.
